Brownie Bowl Breakage… RIP.

  • Broken Brownie Bowl

    Old Faithful bit the biscuit.

(No, not like my most recent recipe for disaster- the sad Buttermilk Biscuits that failed to rise because I failed to add baking soda… a small but sort of important detail.)

This disaster might not seem like a disaster  to you at all, but hear me out.  I had been using Old Faithful, the massive glass measuring bowl pictured above, for countless years.  At least a decade.  The bowl helped spawn several thousand brownies, and hundreds of other sinful concoctions.  The handle made it… easy to handle (go figure).  The glass made it easy to see the spots of flour that still needed stirring into the brownie batter.  And it was the perfect size to handle a double batch of my World’s Greatest Fudge Brownies.

The weird thing about the breakage is that I didn’t know it had even happened.  Like an old family pet who just quietly curls up to die under the kitchen table after 15 years of good living (sorry, a gross analogy but it really makes the point), the bowl decided it had had enough of me and my banging about, and gave in.  It broke- spontaneously, I swear- on the massive lazy Susan it lived on.  In peace, at night.

I’ve since replaced it with a big red bowl with a handle.

“Red, huh?” asked The Husband, who is all about no colors in the kitchen.

I’m still looking for an acceptable replacement.  I can’t see the flour blobs through the plastic anyway.
