    Berry Granola Bars

    January 23rd, 2016

Oh, January.  It’s the time of year for good intentions to be born and fizzled by the 31st, like your resolution to eat better or move your body more or detox or quit drinking (gasp! I just read about this thing- it’s an actual thing- called Dry January, and then promptly made another White Russian.  If […]

  • PB Oatmeal Cookies

    Peanut Butter Oatmeal Cookies

    January 16th, 2016

Sometimes I surprise myself, and not in a good, surprise-party sort of way. Sometimes I do stupid things, which isn’t news to you (like almost burning down our condo, or regularly burning everything I put in the bottom rack of our devil’s-spawn-of-an-oven, or forgetting the date of my Grandmother’s 101st birthday last month because I can’t […]

  • Oatmeal Date Cookies

    Oatmeal Date Cookies

    December 19th, 2015

Dates, huh? Oh yes. If you, like me, love stuffing a good handful of raisins in your mouth- because they’re really just candy dressed as heathy, dried up fruit- then hold on tight.  Dates are even better. Remember when I made the Date Squares?  (If not, drop everything, go the the store and get the ingredients, […]

  • Oatmeal Chocolate Chip Cookies

    Oatmeal Chocolate Chunk Cookies

    July 18th, 2015

Oatmeal and raisin has had the spotlight for years.  Let’s screw the raisins for a while and give chocolate its chance to shine (since chocolate has been under appreciated for so, so many years). Sometimes chocolate chunks have a place, and when it comes to oatmeal, it basically always has a place.  (Hey- why don’t […]

  • Healthy Yummy PB Balls

    Healthy Yummy PB Oat Balls

    May 3rd, 2014

I have a thing for healthy & tasty ingredients rolled into balls.  (Eating things in shapes makes it so much more civilized to eat excessive amounts of them, instead of sitting on the couch with a bowl and eating the healthy & tasty goo right from the spoon you used to stir it altogether.)  Remember […]

    All-Natural Granola Bars

    January 15th, 2014

I love making things that are good for you and don’t taste like it. Take this puppy, for example.  It reeks of health, what with the oats and seeds and nuts and other things that your colon loves to love.  But it also tastes like a treat- something you’ll truly have to ration.  It’s the […]

  • Chocolate Peanut Butter Tart with Oat Cookie Crust

Chocolate Peanut Butter Tart with Oatmeal Cookie Crust

    December 29th, 2013

Trying to find a way to satisfy your peanut butter, chocolate and oatmeal cookie cravings all at once?  Look no further, bakeasaurus. This tart is basically like the Incredible Peanut Butter Chocolate Ganache Pie (which we all fell hard and fast in love with), but baked onto an oatmeal cookie instead of the PB-graham cracker […]

    Classic Oatmeal Raisin Cookies

    October 12th, 2013

Oh yes. I know you’re usually all about the Classic Chocolate Chip Cookie, and normally I wouldn’t blame you.  (Chocolate does trump pretty much anything, as a general rule of baking thumb.  Chocolate also trumps a lot of people, too, but let’s not get into that right now.)  But you know there’s a time and […]

Any time you have an opportunity to sandwich two kick ass cookies together with Marshmallow Fluff as the glue, you know you’ve got a recipe for fun on your hands.  These cookies are a veritable party- and even if it’s just you in the house, have a party for one.  (Which might be better anyway, […]

  • Oat-Branana Muffins with Cinnamon Glaze

Oat-Branana Muffins with Cinnamon Glaze (Vegan!)

    February 27th, 2013

I have no idea why, but I had a hankering to make something with oat bran.  Oat bran sounds terrifically unfun, doesn’t it? (Well, wheat germ takes the cake in the “this doesn’t sound like I’m going to love it” department, but oat bran is a close second.  Sorry, I’m forgetting about All Bran.  All […]

    Date Squares

    February 13th, 2013

I really had no idea that date squares were a Canadian thing. (Okay, I know that calling anything a square instead of a bar means it’s a little more Canuck-like than a Budweiser beer, but still.  I thought everyone loved dates.  Don’t dates transcend international boundaries?) Here’s the thing about dates: they are naturally sweet, so […]

    Healthy Jambalaya Cookies

    January 19th, 2013

I might have gone a bit far in the cookie genre department here, but somewhere out there I know that some people will appreciate the combination of the three most popular cookies of all time: 1. Chocolate Chip 2. Oatmeal Raisin 3. Peanut Butter* I also know that somewhere out there the same mixed up […]

  • Oatmeal Cinnamon Chip Muffins

    March 31st, 2012

Fluffy, moist, healthy (sort of), and just the right amount of sweetness from the cinnamon chips… that’s what these muffins are all about, baby. And once you slather a pat of butter on each half when still warm from the oven, you’ll have the right amount of salty richness, too.

Other than the cinnamon chips, the key to this recipe is the buttermilk~ it gives it a nice depth and tang. The good news is that buttermilk is low in fat, and with oatmeal as a star player in this recipe, you won’t need to fear the muffin top- and I’m talking about the kind that spills over your jeans, not the literal top of the muffin. (But you knew that.)

    Enjoy!

  • Bittersweet Chocolate Oatmeal Bars

    February 15th, 2012

If the idea of a fudgy, creamy, almost-inch-thick layer of bittersweet chocolate makes you feel funny inside (in that good way), then try to imagine this lovely layer sandwiched between what is essentially a buttery, crumbly, oatmeal cookie. The cookie knows enough in this recipe to yield to the beauty of the bittersweetness- it takes a tasty yet restrained backseat to the almost intimidating layer of chocolate.

Makes your heart race, doesn’t it?
