Banana Chocolate Cookie Bars with Coffee Glaze

    December 27th, 2014

Yes, we have no bananas! Remember that 1920s song?  Me neither- but I’ve always liked the title, so there. I do have bananas.  Two, in fact, and they’re ripe and ready.  When I have three or four waiting on the counter to be put to use in their respective afterlives, I’ll make my Banana Nut […]

    Mochanana Cake

    June 28th, 2014

I am a girl who loves banana bread.  And although I can’t do coffee anymore (still mourning the fact that my stomach says an adamant No to caffeine, even decaf tea and coffee, boo hoo), I bake with it as often as I can so I can live vicariously through the lives of the lucky […]

    Mocha German Chocolate Cupcakes

    July 4th, 2013

Yes, we’ve been down the Sweet German Chocolate road before- but never in the form of cupcakes, and never with a brilliantly caffeinated twist.  (You should be nodding right now, in a sort of mesmerized stupor, thinking “yes, it all makes sense- why didn’t I think of adding espresso to German chocolate cake before this moment […]

  • Mocharoons

    June 23rd, 2013

“Mocharoons”… get it? Coconut macaroon + mocha (which everyone worth their weight in sugar knows is chocolate and coffee joined together in harmonious union)= Mocharoons. More, please! But really… this cookie is dedicated to the sweets-obsessed me as a kid.  I wish my Mom, who bestowed important but healthy recipes such as banana bread upon me, had […]

    Triple Coffee Crisp Fudge Brownies

    May 29th, 2013

Let’s get this over with upfront: I’d like to apologize to anyone who doesn’t live in Canada, because a key ingredient in this recipe is a mainstay on Canadian supermarket shelves, but elusive to Americans.  The Brits- I think you’re screwed too.  Not sure about anyone else out there.  You can totally get this important […]

Mocha Cupcakes with Cream Cheese Frosting

    January 26th, 2013

Here’s the beauty of this recipe: Chocolate. Espresso. Cream (cheese). I told you it was a beautiful thing.  And the fact that it’s stuffed into a cupcake just makes it that much more irresistible.  (I didn’t even add sugar to that list, and you were hooked, weren’t you?) (More on the cake:  it’s significant and […]

    Bourbon & Mocha Cake

    January 23rd, 2013

I am smitten by this cake.  And if I am, then you will be too.  Trust me. Take a rich, chocolatey cake… add coffee (which in itself is a recipe for a spectacular success- one needs to go no further, technically)… add chocolate chips (the mini ones, for a bit of chocolate-crazed texture)… and then […]

    Creamy Iced Coffee

    June 3rd, 2012

This is the caffeinated elixir that will become your go-to on a hot day. It’s so good that it might become your go-to on a cool fall day, too, and quite possibly on a blustery cold winter day. The best part about it is that it’s SO easy (yes, SO in caps), so you don’t have any excuses here… none of this “I don’t feel like baking because it’s so hot, but I’m in the midst of a massive sweet craving”, or “I’m too lazy so don’t feel like making anything even though I have a horrendous sweet tooth”. Here’s your answer. And the caffeine will kick you out of lazy mode- hidden benefit.

There are two options in terms of how you prepare your coffee for this drink… one is Super Fast (hot brewed like normal, and a bit of a corner-cutter), and the other option is Fast But Not As Fast As Super Fast (cold brewed and legit- it’ll take at least 12 hours to steep and develop its’ concentrated goodness, but then you’ll have it on hand for future drinks). Starbucks who? Cheers!

    Espresso Tiramisu

    March 18th, 2012

Tiramisu is more than just a little bit glorious. Take cookies soaked with espresso, and layer with a goopy filling of mascarpone cheese & whipping cream. Sprinkle bittersweet chocolate in between the layers, and not only do you have an amplified mocha situation going on, but you have the finishing touch to the dessert that Italians have indulged in for years.

I was given a challenge this past week to put a massive package of ladyfingers to use (thank you, Gina- I love being put to the test), so other than using a dozen to make Rum Balls 3 Ways, I knew that tiramisu was in the cards for the weekend. (That and Irish Cream brownies and shamrock shortbread cookies for St. Patty’s, and oatmeal muffins, banana muffins, and tarts. Just a bit obsessed?)

    Mocha Cinnamon Mini Bundt Cakes

    February 11th, 2012

Some people are a bit weirded out by the melody of chocolate and cinnamon, but most people are intoxicated by it. Don’t hesitate to try it, especially if you’re a chocolate lover. A little cinnamon never hurt anyone- and as its proponents would suggest, it does wonders when combined with the magical duo of chocolate and coffee. It’s the crazy threesome of the baking world.
