So Very, Very Un-Vegan.

  • Mistaken Vegan Muffins with Milk

    Dear Lord.

To what depths of hell to you go when you give a vegan friend a cute little bag of mini Oat-Branana Muffins with Cinnamon Glaze that are so not vegan at all?

This almost happened today.  I had the little vegan buggers all set to deliver.  I was so proud of myself to have made a special recipe  that used egg replacement powder.  And yet.  When typing out this recipe, I had that “oh, wait a minute” moment- you know, the moment that doesn’t occur when you actually need it to.  I thought, “hey, I wonder if the cinnamon chips are vegan”, about 12 hours after actually making the muffins and bagging them and labeling them and feeling like a vegan-baking sensation.

Here’s how the scene unfolded: I made a game-time decision and used cinnamon chips when making the muffins, which I must say was an excellent choice.  The Husband vouched for the choice.  The muffins were goddam exemplary.  And… filled with dairy.  When one of the first ingredients is “low fat milk powder”, it’s kind of clear.  (Vegans really don’t like dairy.  Not much at all.  Not even a little bit, like what you’d find in the adorable and tasty little cinnamon chips.)

So now I have no muffins for my vegan friend (not that she’ll know what she’s missing), and more muffins for all the meat and egg and dairy eaters in my social circle.  Good for them, I suppose.

Crisis averted.  My one-way ticket to hell can wait.

    For now.
